This is not a generic backend or platform role. The focus is specifically on building and optimising connectivity into crypto exchanges, where each venue has its own quirks and performance considerations.

The Role

• Build and optimise connectivity into crypto exchanges (APIs, FIX and proprietary protocols)
• Improve latency and performance across real-time trading systems
• Work with live market data and order flow in production environments
• Identify efficient ways of routing messages without relying on expensive infrastructure
• Bring practical knowledge of how different exchanges behave and how to get the best performance from them
• Contribute to system design decisions around connectivity, latency and performance

Key experience:

• Strong development background in Java (or C/C++)
• Experience working in low latency or performance-critical systems
• Hands-on experience with crypto exchange connectivity (e.g. Binance, OKX, Coinbase or similar)
• Understanding of how different exchanges behave and how to optimise connectivity and routing
• Comfortable working in Linux/Unix environments

Nice to have:

• Experience with FIX or market data systems
• Experience working in trading or real-time environments
• Scripting experience (Python or similar)

This is a hands-on role within a flat hierarchical team where you’ll have direct impact on how the firm connects to and interacts with exchanges, rather than working on isolated components. You’ll be working closely with traders and engineers in a small, collaborative team, contributing across different areas rather than operating in a silo.

Our client is seeking a proactive Desktop Support Engineer to join our technology team. This role will report directly to the Head of Technology and is responsible for providing reliable hardware and software support across the firm’s Microsoft Windows desktop environment, while working closely with internal teams and external IT service providers to ensure smooth day-to-day operation of the firm’s IT systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide hands-on, responsive hardware and software support for Microsoft Windows desktops and laptops to users at all levels, including senior management, acting as the first point of contact for all IT support
• Troubleshoot and resolve IT incidents across hardware, software, and user accounts, working closely with  the firm’s IT service provider
• Partner with in-house engineering teams to support, maintain, and continuously enhance the firm’s IT infrastructure, proactively identifying opportunities for improvement
• Support employee onboarding and offboarding processes, including device setup, desk relocation, access provisioning, and decommissioning
• Support and maintain firm’s Audio Visual (AV) equipment and meeting room technology
• Document issues, resolutions, and processes to support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• At least 1 year of experience in a desktop support or similar IT support role, within financial or professional services, is desirable but not essential
• Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is desirable
• Thorough understanding and familiarity of Microsoft Windows environments, hardware setup, and core business applications
• Proven ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues efficiently, with a methodical and detail-oriented approach
• Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical users
• Proactive and enthusiastic to continuously learn and develop technical skills, with a commitment to delivering a high standard of user support

Mandatory Skills

Our Dundee-based client is seeking a highly skilled and proactive Project Specialist / Escalations Engineer. This role sits at the heart of our project delivery and technical escalation function, combining hands‑on project implementation with ownership of complex, high‑impact support issues. You will be  responsible for delivering technical projects end‑to‑end while also acting as a senior technical escalation point for the Service Desk. You will handle the most complex and critical escalated tickets across Microsoft 365, Azure, networking, and on‑premise server environments, ensuring issues are resolved effectively and in line with company standards. The role requires deep technical expertise, strong problem‑solving ability, excellent organisation, and confident client communication. You will be comfortable managing change in live environments, working independently, and visiting client sites where required.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, deliver, and implement IT projects including infrastructure upgrades, cloud migrations, security improvements, and network deployments.
• Own and resolve escalated support tickets from the Service Desk across:
  • Microsoft 365 / Office 365
  • Azure
  • Networking (firewalls, switches, routing, wireless)
  • On‑premise servers and core infrastructure
• Act as the final technical escalation point, providing leadership and resolution for complex or business‑critical issues.

Qualifications & experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Minimum 5 years’ hands‑on experience in IT support, ideally within a Managed Service Provider (MSP) environment.
• Proven experience in project delivery and senior technical escalation, or clear progression toward this level within an MSP.
• Strong technical expertise across Microsoft 365, Azure, and Windows Server (on‑premise and cloud) environments.
• Solid networking knowledge including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing, and firewalls.
• Full UK driving licence.
