Software Applications Developer - North West

Our client is a dynamic and growing engineering company, based in Cumbria. They are looking for a talented and motivated Software Developer to join their team and help design and innovate our range of cutting-edge acoustic sensor, sonar, and navigation products. 

 

As a Software Developer, you will work with colleagues to develop code and specifications for algorithms, user interfaces and architectures in desktop applications that configure, visualize, log, and manipulate data from our products. In addition, you will be responsible for conducting functional and non-functional testing, troubleshooting, and debugging of software prior to its release, and resolving issues that may arise afterwards. 

 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Understand and translate product and customer requirements into software features and operation.
  • Collaborate as part of a design team to develop algorithms and applications that support our product range.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and debug software prior to its release.
  • Assist with internal and customer documentation relating to software operation.
  • Occasionally participate in customer support, training, and demonstrations.

 

Essential qualifications and skills: 

  • Relevant qualification or experience in developing and building applications for desktop computers. 
  • A creative and analytical mindset with an eye for detail.
  • A working knowledge of software design and programming principles.
  • Fluent in writing structured and well documented source-code in C and C++ languages, 
  • Developing for Windows/Linux platforms with common development environments and frameworks (e.g., Qt, .NET, MFC).
  • Good communication and time-management, and the ability to work well within a team.
  • Competence using standard office software (the Microsoft 365/0ffice).
  • Full driving license. 

 

Desirable skills include: 

  • Experience with OpenGL or other 3D graphics visualisation libraries. 
  • User interface design (e.g., glyphs, icons1 backgrounds, layouts).
  • Working knowledge of physics and mathematics that supports the 3D and geographic processing and visualisation of sensor data. 
  • Web page/application development using client/server technologies and languages.
  • Mobile platform application development (e.g., Android and iOS).
  • Use or version control, build and issue tracking systems.
