Lead Software (C++) Engineer (Edinburgh/Remote) - Remote Working

Excellent salary and benefits package - IT
Ref: 199 Date Posted: Wednesday 26 Apr 2023

Lead C++ Software Engineer / Permanent / Edinburgh / Remote Working (UK)

My client is a world leader in digital video recording (DVR) and inspection systems. They develop and manufactures DVR products for use throughout the Energy Sector. As Lead Software Engineer you will manage a small development team so you must be able to work independently while coordinating other developers.

Working with the Engineering Manager, you will be communicating with the client and making all decisions on strategy, how these new features will be developed and implemented, as well as assigning the work required to the development team.

You will be involved with all aspects of the application lifecycle. This includes talking directly with end users to evaluate what they need, then planning, implementing, testing, and supporting these new features.

Their core product is written in C++ using Visual Studio. They use Qt5 Widgets for the user interface with GStreamer and CUDA for video processing. They have soft real time constraints; therefore, performance and reliability are a necessity. They sell systems rather than software so can target a small number of well defined, high specification, configurations. Testing, especially integration and end to end, is essential so any experience in Automation Testing and/or Test Driven Development would be very beneficial.

Essential - They are looking for a Lead Developer with experience developing desktop software using an object orientated language. They understand good engineers can learn new languages and technologies quickly, so They’re more interested in the problems you’ve solved rather than what you wrote the solution in.

Must be fluent in C++ & QT5 is essential, as well as a strong architectural background

Experience from specification to deployment of an RDBMS (Relational Database Management System) on the Windows platform, as well as software testing are also essential.

Desirable - They use the following technologies in our core product so any experience with these will help get you up to speed:

Languages:     C++, C, SQL

Technologies: GStreamer 1.0, SQLite, OpenGL, CUDA, Jira, Windows 10, Jenkins

Industries:       Offshore energy (oil, gas, renewables), digital video

Other benefits - They strongly believe that every employee must find the right work/life balance. As a small privately owned company they are able to encourage and support this. They offer 32 days annual leave (including public holidays) and private health cover.
